Gi-Gi
A shelter repeat offender sweet Gi-Gi is! Gi-Gi was found as a stray around March 2016 and was adopted later in the summer. However she has unfortunately made her way back to us but we are excited to be able to find her a new forever home! Gi-Gi has surely plumped up since we last saw her and while we are excited to say she has been well fed..her new owners may want to work on providing Gi-Gi with some adequate exercise to shed some of those not needed pounds. She may be hefty in size but don't let that fool you she is no couch potato! Gi-Gi is a excited pup who could also benefit from some good obedience training and leash manners. At this time it appears she will need to have more evaluation done to determine how she would do in a home with other dogs. But we have a great team able to assist in dog meet-and-greets to see if Gi-Gi would fit in with your family! Gi-Gi is a pitbull mix, estimated to be around 2-3 years of age and weighs 54 pounds, She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, but is heartworm positive. **Please remember that pending resources available by the shelter will determine our ability to sponsor treatment** If you think you would be interested in making Gi-Gi a member of your family please give us a call at 757-365-6318

Rockie
Don't let this guys size fool you, he may be 78 pounds but he is very sweet!! A mastiff mix and around 2 years old, this recent surrender is very confused why he is here. His previous owners noted that he does have seizures from time to time and were unsure what caused them, however we have not witnessed any in our care. You may have a hard time finding him because he have him in isolation only to keep a watchful on him. He was brought in with a sister pal who he got along great with! However if you are interested in him and have other dogs we do require a pup meet and greet. Rockie is up to date on shots, rabies, neutered and is heartworm negative. If you would like to know more about Rockie, please call 757-365-6318 or email animalservices@isleofwightus.net

Sissy
Sissy is a recent surrender and a former hunting girl! She and a few four legged friends were dropped off over night at a local club and it was clear to the temporary owners that the “hunt life” just wasn’t right for Sissy and her crew of retirees. Sissy is a little more reserved than her play mate, Pepper. But she does not let that slow her down! Her sweet demeanor is quickly stealing hearts (and treats) here at the shelter. Her future family needs to be willing to reteach basic obedience such as leash manners and house training. A fenced in yard is always suggested! Sissy did have a small cut on her upper back but has been treated by our vet and is ready to walk out our doors to track down her furrever family! Call staff today to find out more information on Sissy and schedule a meet and greet 757-365-6318

Pepper
Pepper is a recently retired hunting girl who enjoys play time with her gal pal, Sissy (who was also surrendered). It seems these two girls (and a few others) were dumped at a local hunt club nearby and after a few good meals and some exploring in the woods for a new hobby, it was clear these two were just not into the ‘hunt life’ anymore. So their temporary owners decided they needed to find more options for a better life. That’s where we come in! Pepper’s current hobbies include: tracking weird shelter smells, saying hi to all strangers, getting lots of treats, belly rubs and learning how to walk on a leash! Sounds fun, huh?! Pepper seems to only be missing one thing, AND THAT’S YOU! We are suggesting Pepper’s future adopters have a fenced yard and lots of patience for reteaching basic obedience such as leash manners and house training. This girl is fun loving and ready to meet her furrever home! Call the shelter today to schedule a meet and greet with Pepper! 757-365-6318

Bailey
This sweet girl's name is Bailey. Believe it or not, she was found in the front lawn of the shelter running around with her puppy that we named Harley. We are unsure of her exact age but we know that she is a younger mother, possibly around 1 to 2 years old. She is a VERY sweet, calm pup and loves everybody she meets. She appears not to like other dogs but loves to run and play! She is good on a leash and is easily trainable. If you would like to meet sweet bailey you can visit anytime during the operating hours Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm -4:00 pm.

Bones
Puppy love, PUPPY LOVE! This guy is roughly 6 months, up to date on shots, neutered and looking for a new place to call home after being surrendered for being too much puppy to handle. But hey, who doesn’t think that from time to time? Bones was pretty nervous at first so he was kept him away from the bigger dogs but now that he is more comfortable, he is out on the adoption floor waiting to steal your heart! Bones will need to be dog tested and kid approved before leaving the facility. But until then, if you would like to schedule a meet and greet with this guy, call the shelter staff at 757-365-6318

Holly
Oh Holly, you are so loved and missed by your whole family. But it is clear that you need a home without other pets to truly be happy. Holly had a wonderful home before being surrendered to the shelter. Her family gave her a home when she was just four weeks old, much too young to be pulled from her momma. They raised her to be a goofy, sweet, and well-mannered girl. She grew up with children and with fur-siblings: dogs large and small, and a cat. On a normal day, she will co-exist just fine with the other animals in the house. However, there are times where something causes her to snap. It is because of this that we are looking for a home for Holly where she can be loved and spoiled as the only pet. Despite this minor flaw, Holly is a loving and loyal family dog. She is housebroken, though may need a refresher once adopted. She does well with children, but is easily excited. She loves to play and snuggle on the couch when she's allowed to. She is strong on the leash but that is easily corrected with proper training. Holly is 4 years old, spayed, and current on her vaccines. If you are interested in meeting Holly, call the shelter at 757-365-6318 or email us at animalservices@isleofwightus.net.

Lucy
We are challenging our facebook followers to have Lucy be the quickest shelter turn around for a pittie yet! Lucy was a stray so we don't know her background but what we have learned about her is that she is NOT a fan of other dogs or cats. However with that being said she is in total complete LOVE with people!! Lucy recently attended Obedience Camp with American K9 Interdiction where she excelled in her training there. They have provided us with some helpful tips and continued training to help manage her dislike of other dogs. While Lucy may not be a dog that you would want to take to the dog park our large outings with other dogs she would make a family who desires only a single K9 companion extremely happy. We have so many dogs in our care that have been with us for a long time, please lets not let Lucy become another one! We try for all of our dogs so hard, and Lucy is no exception to that. We are hoping our followers will share her pictures because the more people to see her the better chance she has to find her forever home! Call us at 757-365-6318 to come meet her during our operating hours!

Pamela
You can NEVER go wrong with a hound!! In the 2.5 years I have worked with Animal Control I have only met 1 small 12 pound beagle that didn't like another dog. Hounds are so forgiving, they get along with everyone and everything...they truly are the ideal K9 companion!! Sadly dogs like Pamela are judged because of their "breed" and think that because she is a hound she wouldn't make a good "pet". While true they may take a bit longer to learn how to play fetch or some more basic obedience; they are eager to please and so grateful for all they love they get! Pamela is still waiting on full vetting, spay and heartworm test but she is available to still find her perfect family!! Give us a call at 757-365-6318 if you would be interested in being that perfect family!

Jethro
Jethro was found as a stray by a good samaritan and brought to us in hopes an owner would reclaim. Jethro had been spending time in our quarantine area to help keep him calm while he adjusts to this new place. However, he has recently been moved onto the adoption floor, where we hope he will gain more confidence and learn that people are here to help him! The shelter can be a very scared place for dogs who are already nervous or does not do well with loud environments. Jethro can be wary of meeting strangers and does well with slower introductions. He seems good on a leash and seems to come out of his shell more when he's outside. We will be doing more testing with Jethro to see if we can find out more about his personality in a home setting. But until then, we are suggesting Jethro only be adopted to homes with no other dogs or small children. We hope to update his album soon with more information! He is currently waiting to be neutered and is only available for adoption to Isle of Wight County residents and surrounding counties at this time. If you would like to inquire about Jethro, you can call the shelter at 757-365-6381
